Because karst limestone can move water in unpredictable directions underground, the plan needs to cover drainage routing, standing water, liner attachment, termite-inspection access, air sealing, equipment placement, and existing framing condition -- in that order.

Lexington context
The 1958 urban growth boundary is the reason this trade exists at scale here. By ringing Fayette County's horse farms with a hard edge, it pushed roughly four decades of residential construction inward into a defined urban service area, and nearly all of it was built over crawl spaces rather than basements -- standard practice across Kentucky, and the reason a majority of Lexington homes have a ventilated void under the floor rather than conditioned space. That concentration matters because vapor-barrier and ground-cover practice shifted over those decades, so a 1968 crawl space and a 1994 crawl space are different starting points even on the same street. Underneath both sits Inner Bluegrass karst limestone -- the same soluble bedrock that makes the pasture famous -- which moves water through solution channels rather than evenly through soil, and can put standing water under a house with no surface grading problem to explain it. Establishing where the water enters before sealing anything is the difference between a repair that holds and a liner over an active source.
